ER Doc Fined for Facebook Disclosures

Healthcare IT News reported that an ER physician, talking about different ER cases on Facebook was fined by the Rhode Island Dept of Health because she disclosed identifiable patient information.  I hope this will be a reminder to all health care providers who may have interesting cases they’d like to share, that it’s in their best interest and professional duty not to disclose patient information at all.  I think the $500 fine imposed on the Facebook doc was not steep enough.  Though she deleted her Facebook account, that information was available for viewing and copying to anybody in her network.
