Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services team up in Detroit to crack down on health care fraud
Attorney General and HHS Secretary in Detroit met for the 5th health care fraud prevention summit. Since May 2009, these efforts resulted in 18 criminal cases involving 120 defendants and $120 million in taxpayer dollars. This collaboration is part of a larger effort through HEAT–Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team. The Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control Account is a law with toughened criminal sentencing, enhanced enrollment and screening requirements and provides more private insurance abuse oversight among other initiatives.
