Medical Group Management Association found that although EHR incentives are driving the change from paper to electronic health records, doctors are reluctant to make the switch due to lower productivity and cost. This is an accurate reflection of my own GP’s experience with implementing an EHR system. He is part of a multi-physician practice and they met with several vendors and came to the conclusion that the practice would not be able to process a certain amount of patients per day due to decreased and interrupted workflow and between the cost of the EHR system and loss of revenue, the practice couldn’t afford it even with the promise of MU incentives.
The good news is 72% of physicians with EHRs indicated they were satisfied with their systems.
